Certosa di Trisulti

Certosa di Trisulti, a monastery located at the foot of Mount Rotonaria in the municipality of Collepardo, was built by San Domenico di Foligno around the year 1000, of which only some ruins lie abandoned today. After the presence of the Benedictines and with financing from Innocent III, the abbey passed to the Certosinis, who began to build a new monastic complex coinciding with the current architectural settlement that was more suited to contemporary life.
However, Certosa di Trisulti remains one of the oldest and best known monasteries of its kind. The organization of the rooms faithfully reproduces the characteristic style of this type of building, which is also a function of the monks' strict habits. The church, chapter house, refectory, pharmacy and monks' quarters are all situated around a porticoed courtyard. Of particular note are the church of San Bartolomeo, with its frescoes and decorations, and the ancient pharmacy, where the monks processed herbs and spices collected from the surrounding mountains to extract essential oils and aromas, which are still jealously stored behind the windows in the pharmacy.

Anagni

Anagni is known as the City of the Popes for having given birth to four of them (Innocent III, Alexander IV, Gregory IX and Boniface VIII) and for long being a residence and papal seat. In particular, the name 'Anagni' is tied to events in the life of Pope Boniface VIII and the episode known as 'the slap of Anagni'.
The medieval centre consists of elegant and austere buildings, Romanesque churches, bell towers, loggias and squares with sober, essential architecture. The 13th-century palace of Boniface VIII, the town hall, the Barnekow house and numerous churches are of great interest, among which the cathedral stands out for its splendid crypt, whose frescoes are one of the most interesting series of paintings in 13th-century Italy.
Today Anagni has established itself as a commercial centre. With over 500 companies, it is the largest industrial centre in southern Lazio and one of the most important in central Italy.
